The front naively carved with a pig, a cow and a horse carrying people to market; the rear carved with portraits of King George III (George William Frederick; 4 June 1738 – 29 January 1820), Queen Charlotte and their first three children.

Edward H. Pinto discusses Gingerbread Boards at length in ‘Treen and other wooden bygones’ (Bell & Hyman, London, 1979, pp.185-188). He comments that: ‘‘decorators’ moulds, when in use, were always backed… The reason was that the multiplicity of fancy food moulds in a pastrycook’s or large family kitchen created a serious space problem: to prevent the “wooden library” becoming too cumbersome, a number of individual gingerbread, cake, biscuit or sugar icing designs were often cut into both sides of a board, known as a “card”. The juxtaposition of carvings on a “card” is often incongruous, to say the least.’
