The interior has two writing surfaces both with its original green leather gold tooled writing surface, on the reverse of the larger writing surface is the cabinet makers label Jonh Flinn from Dublin.
The label reads as follows:

The Georgian Irish Writing Box also has a mahogany tray under the small writing surface when removed gives you access to the secret compartment. Whilst the box is in the open position place the key in the lock at the front of the box and turning the key anticlockwise, so the lock is in the locked position then and only then can you put the long brass pin that is located under the pen tray down through the lock, pushing down you will feel a spring, pushing down on this then enables the secret cover to spring forward revealing three small secret drawers.
Georgian writing box comes with a pair of original inkwells, has working lock with tasselled key.
