An excellent quality antique serving dish with shell and gadroon border. There is a fine original hand engraved armorial to both sides, each within a decorative cartouche and having the motto underneath "SLENDIDENS ET CRESCENS". External border measures - 41 x 32 cms. Recessed internal area 31 x 21 cms. Marked underneath with the Old Sheffield Plate makers mark Cowrie & Co, Long Acre, Sheffield. Circa 1820.
Excellent condition with crisp borders and minimal wear. The hand engraved armorials are sharp. Very minor spotting and light scratches to the top surface. Some copper showing through on the underside.

The Coat of Arms is for the Bristowe family of Beesthorpe Hall and belonged to Samuel Bristowe (1736~1818)
