A delightful rosewood and brass mounted timepiece of small proportions by Robert Bryson, Edinburgh, dated c.1830.

The case has well-figured rosewood veneers, the moulded top with a countersunk brass handle, over arched brass-edged glasses to the two sides. The locking front door has brass-set canted corners, and the locking rear door is also glazed.

The 7cm arched silvered Roman dial is signed Robt. Bryson, Edinburgh, with the original matching blued steel moon hands.

The eight day single fusee movement has shaped plates, and a locking pendulum for transit.
Overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
Robert Bryson commenced business in 1808 and moved to South Bridge, Edinburgh in 1815. He was known for his Congreve rolling ball clocks (before they were patented) and became an excellent chronometer maker, receiving a Royal appointment on the accession of Queen Victoria. His sons later joined him in the business, which was taken over by Hamilton & Inches in 1886.
