Hester Bateman is world-renowned for her extraordinary domestic silverware, and this enchanting coffee pot is a flawless example of her work. Masterfully crafted with an elegant, classically Georgian style, the rare pot beautifully illustrates Bateman’s gift for refined simplicity, even down to the gracefully curved spout. A finely engraved armorial graces the design, serving as a decorative reminder of its prominent provenance. Bateman's famed beaded trim is featured on the lid and base, while an expertly carved wooden handle and charming finial further enhance the exceptional piece.

While tea dominated as the luxury beverage of the Georgian era, coffee was also enjoyed by the middle and upper classes, particularly during the morning meal. While teapots of the age were typically shorter and wider, coffee pots took on their own distinctive shape in order to help the heat and flavor stay with the brew. The tall baluster form of this example is similar to the shape of a Greco-Roman urn, a hallmark of the neoclassical style that pervaded the Georgian era.

A similar coffee pot by Bateman is currently held in the collection of the Nation Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington D.C.).
