This extraordinary George III-period silver teapot by Hester Bateman truly displays this master silversmith’s signature style. Crafted in an oval, straight-bodied shape with an elegant wooden handle and finial, this enchanting pot exhibits the intricate bright-cut garlands, cartouches and beaded borders for which Bateman was renowned.

Hester Bateman is regularly regarded as the “Queen of the Georgian Silversmiths.” Entering her first silver mark in 1761 after the death of her husband John, Bateman was one of the best known of London’s female silversmiths in the 18th century. Building the company with the help of her children and their spouses, Bateman produced items of exquisite beauty and delicacy until her retirement in 1790, and her business continued to flourish into the early 1800s.
