Georgian Silver Toast Rack
An elegant antique sterling silver toast rack of simple plain form having a wire-work frame on tapering splay feet and with a small ring carrying handle. A charming feature is the hand engraved crest on one of the feet. Weight 194 grams, 6.2 troy ounces. Base measures 16 cms x 10 cms. London 1801. Maker Godbehere, Wigan & Boult.
This dainty toast rack is in very condition with no damage. The silver marks are clear and the engraved little crest is still sharp. There are two small repairs underneath (see photos) which don’t show when the toast rack is standing and should almost be expected due to the fragile wire-work form.

Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
Toast racks first appeared in the late 18th century. Before this date toast must have been served on a dish or maybe wrapped in a napkin. The earliest toast racks were made with fine silver wire-work bars mounted onto a frame base or tray base.
