An exceptionally rare mahogany cased table compass by George Adams of Fleet Street, London, Makers to his majesty, King George III.
This rare object has a circular paper dial with central image of Helios surrounded by a sunburst, thirty two compass points and 360 degree angles. This is set within a brass outer dial and the words "LONDON MADE BY G. ADAMS IN FLEET STREET" are printed within the sunburst. The mahogany case is of octagonal form and the glass cover is set within a brass bezel.
