The English family name Garnon is of Norman origin and derives from the Old English word gernon which meant moustache. The name was first found in Montifiquet, in the district of Bayeux. Robert de Guernon accompanied William the Conqueror at Hastings ij 1066. Robert held estates in Herefoedshire, Sussex and a great barony in Essex. The Welsh motto “Nid Cyfoeth Ond Boddlondeb” translates as “Not wealth, but contentment”.
