Map of Glocestershire By John Speede as sold by John Sudbury and George Humble. English mid 17th century.
At this time Bristol was part of Gloucestershire and the city plan can be seen in the bottom right hand corner, with Gloucester occupying the top left. As well as notes on each city, famous battles of the era are clearly visible. On the right hand side there are a collection of Coates of Arms of various dukes, earls and persons of importance during the 17th century. Space for these devices was sold by the map maker or publisher; two, here coloured red but with no details, remained unsold. To the reverse is printed a history of the county along with further interesting facts.
