With Crowned Upright Twin Horse Head Handles
Solid Dug Out and Carved Birchwood
This stylish and simple twin horse headed Kasa, is unusual for being so boldly understated. There is no ornamental carving or flamboyant rosemailing decoration, but it has a simple strength to its line and form. Curiously there is a relatively modern feel about it and a quality that lends it a spiritual feeling. As with all these ceremonial drinking vessels, it was originally commissioned and made for toasting and celebrating at weddings and on other feast days, a tradition that dates back to the Viking times. Each one has its own individuality and presence and we love the quiet dignity of this example.
