D 395. A fascinating and relatively large example of one of Guilmet’s clocks based on his patent of 30th August 1867, No 78311, in which the pendulum keeps swinging without any apparent impulse.

This is achieved by the employment of an imperceptible displacement of the platform on which the statue rests which is sufficient to maintain the action of the pendulum. The back of the movement is stamped Brevete GLT 2506 and the platform is numbered 2694.

The substantial black marble base 12.25" x 8"x 2",has floral engraving to the front infilled with gold and the front rests on lions paw feet with further decoration between them. Above is another block of black marble with elaborate gilded handles to either side. The dial, with engraved and gilded roman numerals and attractively shaped hands, is surrounded by an ornate ring.

The pendulum employs a glass bob.

Overall height of clock:- 31" (78cms) £8,950.
