Art World Gallery. Blackminster Business Park. Near Evesham. WR11 7RE. 01386 834403 + 07913 848515. --------------------------------------------------- Member of the Association of British Naïve Artists, Rodney West's paintings of the sea and sailing ships, tugboats and trawlers are painted with care and detail, which Rodney takes from his vast collection of marine books. His seas are always calm, often with a colourful buoy bobbing up and down, with a happy display, as if it has a life of its own, and the sun painted with playful use of colour. The buildings lined up along the shore in the distance are a mixture of jolly colours, shapes and sizes, forming a pleasing and welcoming landscape. Who can resist this enchanting style of work that beckons us to look back on childhood memories, carefree holidays, times gone by, and locked in of hearts forever, to be drawn out at any moment we wish to return. Rodney chooses to paint on driftwood that he collects himself, making his work unique to that of naive artists. His work is true naïve, and of utmost sincerity; it is expressive, as only a great and simple painting is. His paintings have been enlikened to that of Alfred Wallis, whose work has greatly influenced Rodney.
