Henry Badham Thornhill wearing the red uniform of the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers), with buff coloured facings, silver epaulette and silver lace in pairs, black stock and white cravat
Set into a gold ring engraved on the underside Henry Badham Thornhill. Castle Kevin. Obt 1821

Henry was commissioned as a Cornet in the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) 31st July 1792. He is still shown as a Cornet in the 6th DG in the 1796 Army List, but is not in the 1797 List, indicating he'd sold out of the army by then. The 6th Dragoon Guards were one of the regiments traditionally on the Irish Establishment, portraits of which are scarce

In the Historical and topographical notes on Castle Kevin, Cork Past and Present, on page 106 is reference to A family ring with a miniature nearly 200 years old being in the possession of Miss Ware, the daughter of William Beamish Ware and Miss Sarah Badham-Thornhill (the daughter of Henry Badham Thornhill).

Henry was a member of the Duhallow Hunt in 1800. He married, 6 July 1802, a Catherine Odell, daughter of Thomas Odell of Ballygriffin. She married secondly a Mr. Carmichael
