Good quality, mid-19th Century mahogany Stick Barometer; the “ogee” pediment over glazed, engraved silvered brass register plates, signed by the maker, and bearing Fahrenheit mercury thermometer and rack-and-pinion operated vernier; the trunk, of beautifully patinated, figured Cuban mahogany, edge moulded, and with the original concealed barometer cistern tube terminating within turned cistern cover


Negretti emigrated from Italy in 1830. Having served his apprenticeship with Pizzala in Hatton Garden, he set up on his own in 1840. In 1850 he entered into partnership with Joseph Zambra……the firm which established international supremacy in meteorological instrument making for over a hundred years
