A fine and rare Hepplewhite period mahogany and tulipwood banded serpentine sideboard. The serpentine top cross and edge banded in tulipwood and strung with box. Below a central bowfront drawer opening to reveal a baize lined interior later fitted to accommodate cutlery. To either side a deep concave shaped oak lined drawer, cross banded and with inset tulipwood oval, constructed using fine figured veneers, and a smaller drawer below. The drawers are fitted with brass lion’s mask ring handles. The wide central section probably designed to accommodate a cellaret, with fan shaped patterae brackets. The sideboard is supported on eight elegant tall Hepplewhite manner legs with delicate pointed toes.

This particularly fine and compact piece was previously retailed by famous London dealers, Norman Adams. It is illustrated on page 258 of “18th Century English Furniture – The Norman Adams Collection” by Christopher Claxton Stevens and Stewart Whittington.
