An Album of Plant Specimens with hand written Latin and English names.Such albums were put together as a reference material in describing and recording types of flowers, leaves, seeds and fruits and could be used to record and identify flora of an area.
This book of approx. 100 pages, does not identify source of material but all appears to be of English origin.
Folio, (10” x 15”), half embossed leather binding with marbled boards. Chipped spine ends, worn calf and expected discolouration to pages but a charming example. Undated or named. The paper bears a watermark with Prince of Wales feathers over a monogram J.M. & M. and is dated 1827.The Herbarium at Kew Gardens was started in the 1850’s, somewhat later than this example. English
