A charming Herrengrund parcel-gilt copper cup in the form of a coopered half barrel, beneath is engraved in old German a verse referencing the 'miracle' of Herrengrund whereby, due to the heavy presence of copper in the area's water, iron, when left in the water, becomes coated in copper, i.e changed from iron into copper. It was this phenomenon that lead to Herrengrund in today's Hungary being a popular tourist destination from the 17th through to the late 18th century.

This cup dating from the mid 18th century, circa 1750.
