A Herrengrund parcel-gilt copper cup, to the rim is engraved a verse referencing the 'miracle' of Herrengrund; 'Hat mich in venig Stund, Aus Eisen zu kupfer gefressen'. Due to the heavy presence of copper in the area's water, iron, when left in the water, becomes coated in copper, i.e changed from iron into copper. It was this phenomenon that lead to Herrengrund, a region in today's Hungary, becoming a popular tourist destination from the 17th through to the late 18th century; this cup dating from the mid 18th century, circa 1750.
