It takes four people to lift and we estimate the weight to be over 200kg.
It is made of a really good cut of oak, with a lovely golden colour and medullary rays across the whole surface. The planks run end to end without interruption. Photographed here before restoration, the colour will improve when polished with beeswax.
It was made around 1890-1910 in the reformed gothic / Cotswold School / art and crafts tradition. Judging by the precision tenons, excellent timber and very well drawn base design it must have been an important commission. This is not just a farmhouse refectory table thrown together by the groundsman. Best of all, this table is strong enough to dance on!
