"Icarus Falls (1959) formerly in the collection of Gavin Maxwell, provides the climax of the series of wax reliefs & which fortunately survived the fire which destroyed Sandaig in 1967. Stripped of his wax feathers & his wings reduced to bony frames, Icarus plummets earthwards, the victim of his own folly…..the very choice of wax as the principal medium creates an additional complex visual metaphor.” P. Cannon-Brooks
