Louis Joseph Reckelbus grew up in Bruges and exhibited regularly in the Belgian Art Salons as well as appearing internationally. During the 1930's, Reckelbus worked as the Curator of the Fine Art museum in Bruges and he was an important member of the Royal Belgian Watercolour Society.
Reckelbus' palette was believed to have been alongside the colours of the Fauves during the pre-movement/movement. The Watercolour depicts a stunning scene of St Jean in Bruges, with trade boats on the canal whilst workers tend to the loads.
A fine example of the talents of Louis Joseph Reckelbus. The reverse of the painting shows the hand written message by Reckelbus that states it is a gift to his good friend and fellow renowned Artist 'Frank Branwyn'.
The writing on the reverse reads: "Impression Crépusculaire, To Frank Branwyn - Louis Reckelbus, rue St Jean Bruges"
