The Salver is cast and stands on four unusual cast scroll feet. The raised rim has pleated corners and is decorated with reeding. The main body is beautifully flat chased in the manner of Paul De Lamerie, displaying bead work, Rococo shells, scrolls and a cartouche in each corner containing a floral sprig. The centre is engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Crest above, surrounded by a Rococo cartouche of shells, scrolls and floral sprays. The Salver is very well marked on the reverse and displays a crisp set of hallmarks. Willaim Justice was a specialist maker of Salvers and Waiters.
The quality and weight of this piece is exceptional and may well have been made to go with some De Lamerie Salvers.

The Armorial is that as used by Sir Abraham Janssen, 2nd Baronet, for a short time M.P. for Dorchester. He was also a director of the East India Company. He succeeded his father to the baronetcy in 1748 and died, unmarried, without issue in 1765.

Length: 8.1 inches, 20.25cm.
Width: 8.1 inches, 20.25cm.
Weight: 22oz.
