English Landscape painter and illustrator, born in Sheffield. He moved to London in 1836. Edwards’s earliest exhibition was in 1827, at the Society of British Artists in London. He joined the Royal Academy and in 1842 he was elected an associate, in 1850 he became full member of the Royal Academy, (exhibiting around 140 paintings), His diligent study of nature out of doors, painting on the spot all the substantial part of several of his pictures. Thomas painted in English Scotland and Wales, streams where among his favourite subject. Creswick was industrious and extremely prolific; he produced, besides a steady outpouring of oil paintings, numerous illustrations for books.
