A very fine pair of George III giltwood open armchairs attributed to Ince & Mayhew. Each chair with a heart-shaped back and serpentine seat, the outswept arms on shaped channeled supports, standing on fluted tapered legs headed by curved patter.

These heart-shaped back ‘cabriolet’ chairs relate to a suite of sixteen chairs and two sofas supplied to Richard Myddelton for the Saloon at Chirk Castle, Wrexham, North Wales circa 1782-83. A further four pairs of chairs attributed to Ince & Mayhew were also made and possibly supplied to James Buller for Downes, Devon.
