Size: 1cm high, 8cm dia. - ¼ ins high, 3 ins dia.
Small fine carved ivory objects of this type considered by the court to be ‘exotic’, can be seen being used as saucers or stands in the 17th century Mughal gouache depicting Jahangir entertaining Shah’Abbas, which was painted shortly after the Flemish merchant in precious stones, Joseph de Coutre, had visited the court in Agra in 1618.
