An imposing late 18th century Irish chimneypiece in Italian Statuary and richly coloured and strongly veined Convent Siena marble c. 1790.

The chimneypiece has detached reeded columns with blind stop flutes terminating in ionic capitals beneath plain Siena corner blockings with a delicately carved classical frieze tablet and flanked by Siena frieze panels supported by a rectangular tablet inlaid with Siena stop flutes. The aperture of the chimneypiece is framed by carved ingrounds featuring rosettes, bell drops and lambs tongue mouldings.

The chimneypiece was removed from Glyde Court, near Tallanstown in County Louth, Southern Ireland. Glyde Court, which now lies in a state of terminal disrepair was built in the late 18th century and was the home of the Foster Baronets, whose extended family included Lady Elizabeth Hervey, notorious for her relationship with Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.
