A fine silhouette of a gentleman profile right. He is wearing a powdered wig held in a plait with a ribbon, this style is known as a "Catogan wig". His jacket has a deep collar and he wears a frilled lace cravat.

The silhouette is reverse painted on glass, it is possible to see that part of the jacket has been painted by "fingerprinting"a technique used by Isabella Beetham. The silhouette is backe with card and is in an oval gilt wood frame with a beaded surround.

This silhouette bears the Collection Labels of both Sue McKechnie's collection, number 63 and the Ransford Collection.
It also bears remnants of Isabella Beetham's Trade Label No. 5
This silhouette has been in the Collections of both Sue McKechnie and Andrew Ransford.
