Alice Culin was born on the 30th January 1875 in Philadelphia. She studied art under Rena DeCamp, Carl Newman and Robert Henri and subsequently became a member of the Concord Art Association in 1925. She regularly exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts where she won prizes in 1906 and 1910. She won a medal for her exhibit at the Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco in 1915; a major exposition celebrating the completion of the Panama Canal.
