The portrait of James II by Lely from the collection of George Vansittart at Bisham Abbey was sold Christie's, London 30 July 1982, lot 7. A portrait by Lely and studio which relates to the present miniatures is in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405673).

The corresponding preparatory drawing by Henry Bone, dated April 1831, is in the National Portrait Gallery, London (inv. no. NPG D17191)
