A good miniature rosewood 4-glass mantel clock by one of the most eminent makers of the period. The rosewood case stands on adjustable brass ball feet and has a castellated top.

The silvered dial has Roman numerals, Breguet -style hands and is signed James Murray, Royal Exchange London 1172 and this is repeated to the backplate of the movement. The movement has twin fusees, anchor escapement and hour strike sounding on a gong.

Date: circa 1830-1840

Height: 8 ½ in. (21 cm)

*James Murray was a watch and chronometer maker of great repute, and active in London between circa 1810 and the 1840s. His clocks were consistently of the highest quality and amongst the finest of the period.
