Square piano made c1817 number 2220 with six turned and fluted legs with a single pedal. Name engraved on brass name-boards plate. Overall dimensions – height 34”, width 25.5” Length 68 “. Keyboard five and half octave covered in ivory with ebony accidentals. Nameboard in maple with crossbanding and fretwork above keys. Fitted with internal dust board painted green single line.
The instrument has been restrung in the traditional manner and tuned to 415Hz with iron, brass and light open spun bass strings. The action is particularly light and responsive to the player with a free, clear and pleasing sound.
The elaborate regency casework in mahogany has found front corners with brass inlay and is cross banded with rosewood defined by an ebony line. The six turned and fluted legs are on brass castors. Of particular note is the splendid ormolu brass work at the top of the legs, round the case and as handles to the two side drawers and concave middle drawer.
The instrument is a particularly fine early 19th century English piano making in excellent playing condition, (however it does not and will not ever sound or feel like a modern piano).
