Three oval pastel portraits of the Knight family of Folkestone, the mother was wife of William Knight and her son Thomas Edward and her daughter Mary Alice. Mrs Knight wears a pale blue dress with a low lace edged neckline and a white "buffon" her hair is worn powdered "a la conseilleur". Mary Alice wears a low cut white dress with embroidered white spots and a deep blue sash, her dark hair falls to her shoulder in curls. Thomas Edward also wears a white dress with a blue waist sash, his long hair worn long to his shoulders.

Pastel on card in original oval gilt wood frames with beaded inner edges.

Thomas Edward Knight was born 1788 and died 1832. The inscription on his tombstone in Weymouth's Bury Street cemetery reads as: "Sacred to the memory of Lieut. Thos Edward Knight, RN of Folkestone, Kent. Aged 42, who in the execution of his duty as Chief Officer of the Coastguard was wantonly attacked by a body of smugglers near Lulworth on the night of 28th June 1832, by whom after being unmercifully beaten he was thrown over the cliff near Durdle /door from the effects of which he died the following day." !!

Mary Alice was born 1786 and died 1799.
