A superb Japanese lacquer box for writing paper from the Meiji period, the wooden box is lacquered in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, takazogan with applied mother of pearl decoration, on a black lacquer ground, the top is decorated with two deer, the interior decorated with a swirling design, signed.
