A large Japanese carved wood and lacquer box and cover. Meiji Period. Well carved with panels of horses at play in Chinese style, within lacquered birders. Reminiscent of The Eight Horses of Mu Wang. Having a lid carved with a large peacock, within a scrolled border.
The interior with a black lacquer tray.
Some typical age cracks. Otherwise perfect.No restoration.
