Information from Ricky Riccardi, the Archivist for the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens: Louis Armstrong played in Milan in December 1955 at the Teatro Nuovo concert hall, giving two shows a day while they were. In the early hours of December 20, 1955, George Avakian of Columbia Records brought the All Stars to the Teatra Leonarda da Vinci to do a recording session. A bunch of enthusiastic Italian fans were invited to the private session and some of the results were released on the very popular Columbia LP, "Ambassador Satch." Armstrong was riding high as "Ambassador Satch" in this period and had just been featured in the "New York Times" and on an Edward R. Murrow television special a few weeks earlier. In Milan, his band featured Trummy Young, trombone, Edmond Hall, clarinet, Billy Kyle, piano, Arvell Shaw, bass, Barrett Deems, drums and Velma Middleton, vocals.
