John Andrew Gardner was primarily a landscape painter and printmaker. He was born in Victoria, Australia in 1906 and studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. In 1928 he began an extensive tour of Central & Eastern Australia with fellow artist Rex Battarbee and works from this and other trips were successfully exhibited in Melbourne and Sydney. Both artists became well known as artists and writers about inland Australia. He was also a successful commercial artist and printmaker. He died in 1987.

This painting is an oil on canvas and is housed in what is probably its original art deco frame, though it may have been later painted gold. An inscription on the back of the stretcher provides the title. Overall, including frame, it measures 15.5(h) by 19.5(w) inches.
The painting is in very good condition. Though probably the original frame, it has a dull gold appearance and presentation could be improved by better framing.
