A fine 8-day marine chronometer signed and numbered by the maker on the dial. It retains its original gold hands and there are subsidiary dials for the seconds and up/down dials. Engraved in red, it is recorded that the maker also won a gold medal in 1886.

The substantial movement has fine quality spotting on the plates and it has Poole’s auxiliary temperature compensation along with a standard English detent. The movement is supported on a gimbal in its original well patinated brass bound mahogany box with inset brass carrying handles. It retains its original brass tipsy key.

Height: 8 ¾ in (22 cm)

Width: 8 ¼ in (21 cm)

Depth: 8 ¼ in (21 cm)

* 8-day marine chronometers of this quality and originality are becoming increasingly rare.
