Good quality and unusual Georgian mahogany Stick Barometer; the “swan-neck” pediment, inset with ivory paterae and centred by brass finial, over finely engraved silvered brass register plate, signed by the maker and bearing mercury Fahrenheit thermometer and manually operated vernier, protected by glazed door. The case is of well patinated mahogany, herringbone-veneered, chequer-strung and edge-moulded. The exposed barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover with unusually set chequer stringing.


Narrien was a noted Optical and mathematical instrument-maker, trading from premises at 70 St. James’ St., London from 1805-25.
