The movement is of fine quality and has a spring detent chronometer escapement with maintaining power and all the associated mechanical refinements. These include heavy bimetallic compensated balance wheel, blued steel helical hairspring and jewelled endstone. The movement is contained within a gimballed brass surround and the exceptional faded mahogany box has an observation lid, brass bound corners and raised carrying handles.

* John Poole who is recorded as working between 1818 and 1867 was a noted chronometer maker and best known for his experimentations with auxiliary compensation and chronometer escapements.
