John (1793-1837) was a son of James Hugh Smith- Barry, a grandson of 4th Earl of Barrymore.
He was known for his lavish entertaining and as such developed Fota House into an imposing country seat. He married a daughter of Robert Courtenay of Ballyedmond, County Cork in 1814
