A fine William and Mary period ebonised longcase clock by this well-known maker.

The 11 inch brass dial has a raised silvered brass chapter ring, cherub’s head and foliate corner spandrels, a finely matted centre with ringed winding holes, inset date and a subsidiary seconds dial below XII.

The well-proportioned ebonised pine case has an inset brass lenticle in the moulded trunk and stands on restored bun feet. The flat top hood has barley twist pillars and a well carved sound fret.

The high quality 8-day duration movement has outside countwheel hour strike on a bell and is complete with a brass bob pendulum and a pair of brass cased weights.
* John Wise Junior was the son of John Wise senior to whom he was apprenticed from 1675 until 1682. From the date of this clock, it is most probable it was made by the son. They were both prominent early London makers whose work is highly regarded.
