John Wright circa 1817 A fine portrait of Robert Younghusband of the 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment of Foot, in red uniform with gold lace and epaulettes, the latter with balls of the grenade device of the Grenadier Company In gold frame the reverse with gold monogram RY on plaited hair.

Additional Information:

Prior to 1803 Robert served in the King’s own Dragoons. In 1803 he became Lieutenant in the 53rd Regiment, Captain in the 53rd Regiment 1st January 1811, and disbanded 1817, around the time that this portrait was taken. The wings mark him as a flank company man We are grateful to Mr. C. Bryant for his help in cataloguing this piece
