Circa 1620, Flemish. Genesis 39: 7-20. Joseph, the eldest son of Jacob & Rachel, was bought from the Ishmaelites by Potiphar who made him the steward of his household. After being refused by Joseph, Potiphar's wife clutched at his robes pleading with him. At this Joseph fled abandoning his cloak. She then avenged her humiliation by accusing Joseph of trying to violate her, using the cloak as evidence, which led to the imprisonment of Joseph.
