A delightful study of a young girl watching over her baby sister fast asleep in a rocking cot whilst the family terrier looks on nonchently. A fine characteristic work by late 19th century Scottish artist Kate Gray.

Kate Gray was born in Scotland in 1870 and specialised in painting family genre scenes with excellent use of light to create a slightly subdued yet relaxed atmosphere in the works she painted. Kate is understood to have exhibited in Scotland and the north of England yet never made it as far south as London for exhibitions, though her works have and do appear regularly in galleries in both Scotland and England. A fine painting.
Excellent. The picture has been lightly cleaned.
From a private collection in Essex.
