King George II (1683-1760) in gilt studded armour, ermine-bordered red cloak over his shoulder, wearing the blue sash of the Order of the Garter
in gilt-metal frame, engraved on the reverse George II

The enamel has many of the characteristics of Zincke’s work and is probably painted by one of his pupils such as Prewett and Abraham or Noah Seaman. There is a replica in Her Majesty the Queen’s collection, illustrated by Walker, p. 9 as being attributed to Prewett and another variant with similar head but body in reverse was attributed to Prewett when it was sold at Sotheby’s 13 December 1976.
The design of the commanding martial figure is based on the portrait of George II by the Hanoverian portrait painter Gottfried Boy, 1747
