Louis XV, known as Louis the Beloved, was a monarch of the House of Bourbon who ruled as King of France from 1 September 1715 until his death. He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five
Jacques-Antoine Arlaud was born in Geneva, and spent much of his working career in Paris where he settled in 1688 and became miniature painter to the duc d’Orléans. He visited London in 1721 with a letter of introduction to Caroline, Princess of Wales. He returned to Geneva in 1729 and remained there until his death. Benjamin Arlaud ) was his younger brother and Louis Ami Arlaud-Jurine his great nephew.
