Kitty Dale was a Music Hall actress who starred in Leslie Stuart's "THE BELLE OF MAYFAIR", a very popular musical comedy based on Romeo and Juliet, which ran for 430 performances at the Vaudeville Theatre, London. It featured numerous Edwardian beauties wearing outrageous costumes and hats, brandishing parasols.
Excellent. Cleaned and restored by Stacy- Marks of Eastbourne in 1992.
Charles Wilson Hales, thence by descent to his daughter. The picture is sold with a note written by Charles Hales which reads: "Phoned Jagger this morning May22 1952 and he said the sitter was Kitty Dale and he must have painted it soon after arriving in London from Sheffield. He arrived in London in 1913 and said the picture was painted around 1920. His pictures were dispersed through the Fine Art Society."
