| BÉRAUD |
Jean Béraud was perhaps the pre-eminent artist of the Belle Époque, defining the period. He was a highly successful painter who portrayed and recorded Paris in the golden age: high society, salons, promenading on the Champs-Élysées, the cosmopolitan Paris of the fashion house of Worth, the Paris whose admiration for Scandinavian and Russian literature, Wagnerian opera, Savile Row tailors and American money knew no bounds. This example encapsulates the finest characteristics of Béraud’s work.
