In this excellent work of allegorical marble sculpture, the abstract concept of 'Navigation' is personified, shown standing upright as if surveying the landscape, and holding a chart and pair of compasses. The work is directly reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance, when allegorical art depicting concepts such as Navigation was commonplace.

This sculpture is a 19th Century work by the Italian artist Adolfo Cipriani (fl. 1880-1930). It depicts, along with the full-length allegorical figure, a small child holding a dish. The group is set on a rectangular base, and comes with a rectangular marble plinth. The base is signed 'A. Cipriani'. The figure and plinth have the following dimensions:
